The Cobra HBCU Experience gives young people an early introduction to the traditions, community spirit, leadership opportunities, and cultural pride associated with Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
We believe students should begin seeing college as a meaningful possibility long before their senior year of high school.
Through immersive activities, performances, mentorship, campus visits, and leadership experiences, Cobra transforms the idea of college into something students can explore, experience, and work toward.
HBCU-inspired marching arts:
Students experience the energy and precision of HBCU-style marching bands, drumlines, dance teams, flag units, and cheer squads.
Participants learn teamwork, performance discipline, musicality, stage presence, and collective pride.
Student government and leadership:
Students participate in age-appropriate leadership opportunities modeled after student organizations and campus government.
Leadership activities may include:
- Student representatives.
- Program ambassadors.
- Event committees.
- Peer mentorship.
- Community service initiatives.
- Leadership workshops.
- Youth advisory opportunities.
College tours and campus exposure:
Participants have opportunities to learn about HBCUs, explore college pathways, and participate in campus visits when available.
Experiences may include:
- College campus tours.
- Admissions presentations.
- Conversations with college students and alumni.
- Scholarship awareness.
- Financial aid education.
- College readiness workshops.
- Exposure to college bands and performing arts departments.
Homecoming and campus traditions:
Cobra brings HBCU-inspired traditions to life through special events and annual celebrations.
These may include:
- Cobra Performing Arts Homecoming.
- Battle of the Bands experiences.
- HBCU Night.
- Pep rallies.
- Community performances.
- Student recognition ceremonies.
- Family engagement events.
Academic and college preparation:
Students are encouraged to maintain strong academic habits, set educational goals, and connect their performance interests to future opportunities.
Support may include homework assistance, academic monitoring, mentorship, college exploration, and exposure to scholarship opportunities.
At Cobra, the college journey does not begin after graduation. It begins when a young person discovers they belong in a future bigger than they imagined.
